Though surprising, this practice is indeed occurring. It is an ancient cultural tradition in a particular ethnic group. When a guest arrives at a home in this community, it is the host who sends his wife to stay with the guest overnight.

This tradition may seem unusual at first glance, and it might be hard to believe that such a practice exists. However, in a certain ethnic group in Namibia known as the Himba people, this ancient custom has been preserved through generations.

In this community, a woman’s marriage is decided by her father. The woman must marry the man chosen by her father, following the customs of their people.

After marriage, a more intricate tradition unfolds. In this ethnic group, it is the responsibility of the woman’s father to decide if she can spend the night with her husband. This decision is crucial and is made based on the acceptance of the husband by the woman.

Furthermore, the complexity deepens in this community when it comes to hosting guests. If a guest arrives, and the host allows them to stay overnight, the host’s wife is sent to spend the night with the guest. Even in the case of a husband sending his wife to spend the night with the guest, the bride is obliged to comply with this practice as part of the hospitality ritual.

This cultural tradition is deeply ingrained in the Himba people’s way of life, and it showcases the unique customs and rituals that have been passed down through generations.
